About
"If you don't feed your obsessions, they'll kill you."
I am Stamo, and I have been lucky enough to spend my life doing the one thing I would have done anyway. For years I taught the history of textiles, the eye for how things are made and why they last. And all the while I was collecting: travelling, looking, and buying whatever stopped me in my tracks, whether a fragment of antique embroidery or an object I simply could not walk past. The Galllery is where those two lives meet, a hobby indulged at last and shared with people who look at things the way I do.
What I am drawn to is interest, spaces and objects that hold your attention and repay it. That is the only real thread running through what you will find here: historic and contemporary textiles, antiques, original work by Greek artists and objects old and new gathered from all over the world. Not one place, not one period, just things that caught a practised eye and turned out to have a true story worth telling.
And the story matters as much as the object. I will tell you where a piece came from, whose hands it passed through and how it survived. I will be just as straight about what is documented and what is family memory, what is certain and what is honestly still a question. Where something carries the marks of its age, I treat that as part of its life, not a flaw to disguise. Years of teaching left me unable to do it any other way.
The Galllery is also a place of exhibitions, a programme that reaches well beyond what is for sale. Textiles and antiques have their turn, but so does contemporary work in any medium, and art that wrestles with the questions of the moment, our own age of artificial intelligence among them. I put these on to open the mind rather than settle it. I would sooner send you home with a better question than a tidy answer. Feeding an obsession, it turns out, works best when you do it in company.
The Galllery lives in Argostoli, on Kefalonia, and online, so whether you come through the door or find me from the other side of the world, the welcome is the same. Come look, ask and take your time. This is a slower way of buying, and a deliberate one, for people who would rather own one true thing than ten fashionable ones and who understand that the story is the value.
